Double the pleasure !

Double the pleasure !
Rise & shine at 2.45am…. Just getting back in the groove, and having had the day off yesterday, I was itching to get back to my training today. I was up, stretched and out the door at 3.05am… a nice cruise in 43 degree weather with light winds from the west, on the junior circuit course through Manasquan…Tuesday I introduced the new schedule to my body with a 21 minute run. Today I added a little extra with a 25 min run. I felt smoother than Tuesday, but I will not lie, it is tough on the body at that time of the morning but strangely empowering….my leg felt good this morning…
Then breakfast and off to UPS… We had the auditors in today so there was extra pressure to be perfect…… I am on the safety committee and so the auditors came around and quizzed me on safety matters while I was loading trucks which was not easy…. A good honest day’s work !
After a good nap and some work at home, it was time for run # 2 of the day… a repeat of the Tuesday run. a 7 mile round trip from my house to the Senior circuit (Brielle 10k course) at 1.45pm. Tuesday was a nervy run on the 10k course, albeit in lovely weather but I was cautious on the hills but pleased with the results. My leg was always on my mind.
Today in beautiful weather, low 60’s, sunny and a nice breeze out of the east (switched from this morning). My plan was to run a little easier the first half compared to Tuesday and a little harder in the 2nd half. Although on Sunday and Monday I ran quite hard on the treadmill, I have not yet opened it up at all on the roads….. my splits on Tuesday went 7.38 -7.12-7.03-7.09-7.01-7.05- today my splits went 7.19-6.59-6.53-6.41 (slight tailwind)-6.32 (slight headwind)-6.30 – the thing that I am most pleased about was that today was the first day since I returned to running a week ago today that I did not think about my leg. It was back to normal and I was able to run ‘free’ ! I would describe my run as on the comfortable side of uncomfortable for the first half and the comfortable side of uncomfortable in the second half….. on the long down hill in the 5th mile I could run with a normal stride and did not have to protect my leg like I did on Tuesday…. I still need to build the left calf strength up but I think the injury has finally healed… My ankle gets tight in my workboot on the side of the recently injured calf so I am going in the morning to get an ankle adjustment. It should work well.
All in all, I am quietly very pleased with the progress I have made in my first week back to running……….
Let the good times roll !~
